Hail damage comes in many forms. The appearance of hail damage varies slightly, depending on the type and material of roof. In general, hail damage looks like small, round “bullet holes” in your roof. These small holes are called “hail hits.” In order to accurately diagnose your roof, let’s talk about what hail hits look like on different kinds of roofs.
Hail hits on an asphalt or composition shingles roof are random and have no discernable pattern to them. They are typically black in color, and the asphalt may seem slightly shiny in these spots. These hail hits are typically soft to the touch, much like bruises on a piece of fruit.
Hail hits on wood shingles are also random with no discernable pattern and are brown/orange in color. Hail causes splits in the shingles with sharp corners and edges. These splits have little to no deterioration at the edges. There are also impact marks and dents along the splits.
Hail hits on metal roof panels are fairly easy to spot. They are a series of random, round dents scattered throughout your roof panels. They look fairly similar to car dents and dings, but they are much more numerous and are scattered unevenly across your roof.
Of course, one of the best ways to diagnose hail damage is by having it inspected by a professional. That’s where we can help! We’ll inspect your roof for free and determine if repairs are needed. We’ll help you prevent serious damages by catching serious hail damage before it spreads!
